A global (North and South) and detailed vision of the measures used to support agriculture

Why a Global Observatory of Support for Agriculture?

Agriculture and food are at the heart of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations in 2015They make an essential contribution, directly or indirectly, to the health of individuals, to poverty reduction, to job creation or to the protection of biodiversity and natural resourcesThis contribution is of capital importance in all countries of the planet, whatever their income level, particularly in the context of climatic, political and health shocks.

What do we really know about public support for agriculture?

Different policies are implemented to enable the development of the agricultural and agri-food sector across the planet. But what exactly do we know about state interventions in agriculture, the resources they devote to them and the effectiveness of their actions? Several indicators exist, including those calculated by the OECD, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the MAFAP program, the FAO, ReSAAKS, the World Bank, etc. However, These indicators currently lack both a global (North/South) and detailed vision of the measures used to support agriculture..

What is the FARM Observatory?

Created by the Foundation, The Global Observatory of Support to Agriculture is a platform to meet this need. By aggregating several data sources (OECD, IDB and MAFAP), it allows the monitoring and detailed analysis of agricultural support policies 88 countries, realizing in value, approximately 90 % of world agricultural production.

A tool for citizens and decision-makers

The objective is to provide all actors (citizens, researchers, public and private decision-makers) of key figures and elements of agricultural policy analysis, in forms that are easy to use and fuel debate. The Observatory was presented repeatedly in conferences (UEMOA, Afd, Climate Academy, CCFD, CATIE-Costa Rica) and has been the subject of numerous articles in the press.

Go to the Observatory page to view the data:

  • World Map: Access an overview of support by country and region.
  • Detailed analysis: Explore the composition of support by country and/or region.
  • Comparison between countries: Compare support levels between different countries and/or regions.
