The Mediterranean is a hotspot for climate change: It is warming 20% faster than the rest of the world. The years 2022 and 2023, marked by prolonged droughts, heat waves, heat waves and floods, illustrate this.
On the front line in the face of these threats, the Mediterranean agricultural world must quickly find the means to adapt.
These challenges transcend national borders.
Mediterranean cooperation is necessary to share existing adaptation levers or create new ones, pool technological, scientific and financial resources and co-construct a Mediterranean adaptation strategy to guarantee healthy food and production methods that respect producers and the environment.
Designed as an educational tool for dialogue, this book aims to fuel discussions related to adaptation to climate change. Based on science and the experiences of stakeholders, this white paper offers a professional visionprospective to describe and assess the impact of climate risks. Contributors from different Mediterranean research institutes provide valuable insights into the case studies presented in the book.
The book also provides keys to understanding adaptations., at different scales and timescales, from incremental to transformative. It thus makes it possible to draw up initial avenues of reflection on the levers to be activated to support and make these transformational adaptations achievable.
