What if livestock farming was part of the solution? - Transition(s) Ep. 4 - Wednesday, June 28 at 4 p.m.
Presentation
Livestock farming is regularly at the center of debates surrounding the future of agriculture and food security. Several criticisms are leveled at them, whether it be their environmental impact or the increasing land area they require for animal feed.
However, if practiced sustainably and integrated into virtuous value chains, livestock farming has many positive effects on the socio-economic level as well as on soil fertilization and biodiversity.
In this 4th issue of the Transition(s) show, produced in partnership with Inter-réseaux, we wonder about the conditions under which Livestock farming can contribute to a systemic agroecological transformationWhat is the state of livestock farming in the countries of the South and the North? What role should it play in agricultural systems? How can we design sustainable value chains today in which livestock farming has its place?
To talk about it, three guests:
- Claire Aubron, lecturer-researcher at the Montpellier Agro Institute, UMR SELMET
- Xavier Poux, associate researcher at Iddri and agronomist consultant at AScA
- Bio Goura Soulé, technical assistant for livestock and pastoralism for ECOWAS
Our guests answer questions from Matthew Brun, scientific director of the FARM Foundation.
