To support field actors involved in agricultural projects and to inform public and private decision-makers in their investment and public policy choices, the FARM Foundation conducted, in partnership with the AFD, a study on soil fertility renewal in West Africa.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/div> \n <\/div>\n \n \n <\/div>\n \n<\/section>\n\n\n

Our study analyzes the causes of the fertility crisis currently affecting West African agricultural systems, traces the dynamics that have weakened traditional soil regeneration mechanisms, and formulates recommendations to encourage sustainable agricultural practices.<\/p>\n

Two areas of analysis, Benin and Senegal, serve as the basis for this exploration.<\/span><\/h3>\n <\/div> \n <\/div>\n \n \n <\/div>\n \n<\/section>\n\n\n

  1. Analyzing the challenges of soil fertility in West Africa<\/strong> based on current scientific debates and agricultural dynamics.<\/li>\n
  2. Understanding the factors that influence soil fertility<\/strong>, by combining a historical, pedological and agronomic perspective.<\/li>\n
  3. Highlighting the diversity of West African agrarian systems<\/strong> through case studies Senegal<\/strong> and to the Benign<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. Demonstrate the role of agricultural practices<\/strong> in the improvement or degradation of soil fertility, particularly through the recycling of mineral elements.<\/li>\n
  5. Linking local issues to macroeconomic, social and political dimensions<\/strong> which structure soil and input management.<\/li>\n
  6. Examine public policies supporting fertilizers<\/strong> as well as the organization of organic and mineral fertilizer supply chains, particularly in Senegal.<\/li>\n
  7. To propose an interpretation of agricultural nutrient flows<\/strong> (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) to better illuminate the balances and imbalances of fertility.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n <\/div> \n <\/div>\n \n \n <\/div>\n \n<\/section>\n\n\n
