However, the physical and biological components of soil fertility often remain under-considered in public policy, even though they are essential for the sustainability of agricultural systems.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00514c;\">How can we go beyond an approach limited to inputs alone in order to respond to the multiple dimensions of soil fertility?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33960\" src=\"https:\/\/fondation-farm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-forum-africain-sur-les-systemes-alimentaires-2025-afsf.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"437\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fondation-farm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-forum-africain-sur-les-systemes-alimentaires-2025-afsf.webp 768w, https:\/\/fondation-farm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-forum-africain-sur-les-systemes-alimentaires-2025-afsf-300x171.webp 300w, https:\/\/fondation-farm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-forum-africain-sur-les-systemes-alimentaires-2025-afsf-18x10.webp 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/afs-forum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">African Food Systems Forum 2025<\/a>, the FARM Foundation publishes, in partnership with the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.afd.fr\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">French Development Agency<\/a> (AFD) and in the \u201cPublic Policy Dialogue\u201d collection, a policy brief entitled:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00514c;\"><em>\u201cHow to fertilize differently for good soil health? The example of Senegal\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This document formulates several<strong> strategic directions<\/strong> to sustainably preserve soil health, illustrated by the Senegalese example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Complementarity<\/strong> between mineral and organic fertilizers.<\/li>\n<li>Adoption of <strong>agroecological practices<\/strong> to restore the physical and biological dimensions of fertility.<\/li>\n<li>Setting up a <strong>regulatory framework<\/strong> strengthened to ensure the quality of subsidized organic inputs.<\/li>\n<li>Valorization of <strong>crop residues<\/strong>, whether through their direct return to the soil or through their transformation into organic amendments from livestock farming, in a context of strong competition for their economic and energy use.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reinforcement<\/strong> training, agricultural advice and access to soil analyses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00514c;\"><strong>To remember:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sustainably restore soil fertility<\/strong> requires going beyond an approach limited to mineral fertilizers alone.
